Vino Cuenca of Surrey BC is a 22 year-old Filipino Canadian beatbox champion.
He discovered beatboxing as a kid & has since been honing his skills in the art by watching online videos.
Vino calls beatboxing an “avenue of music”, much like singing, that needs to be practiced… not just a “party trick.”
Vino not only participates in Beatboxing competitions to represent himself, he’s also a part of the University of British Columbia’s a cappela club.
In 2019, Vino won the Canadian Beatbox Championships in Toronto hosted by Beatbox Canada – which allows him to represent the country at the international level.
However, he’s been unable to do so due to the pandemic, with most 2020 competitions cancelled.
Vino has since launched the West Coast Groove Facebook page, where people from the local beatbox community can gather, showcase their skills, and compete.
He has plans to teach his beat-boxing skills to others & would love to Beatbox for a living in the future… but for now, Vino’s continuing his studies at UBC, to follow in his parents’ footsteps, who both work as lawyers in British Columbia.
